Role: DAIRY PROCESS OPERATOR:-Shred/String Operative (Grade 5 Permanent nights) Permanent nights 40hrs per week Closing 28th September Location: Magheralin, Craigavon, Co. Armagh Role Purpose: The String/Shred Production Operator is responsible for the efficient and compliant production of string and shred products, ensuring all output meets internal specifications and external standards. This role requires strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), proactive quality control, and effective communication across departments to maintain high operational standards and product integrity. Responsible for: Operate and monitor string/shred production equipment to ensure consistent output aligned with daily schedules. Accurately add ingredients as per product specifications and batch requirements. Conduct routine online QA sampling and testing to verify product quality. Make timely process and quality adjustments to maintain compliance with PSOPs and regulatory standards. Complete and verify daily production log sheets and documentation. Follow all SOPs and safe working practices to ensure a secure and compliant production environment. Remain vigilant to potential contamination or quality issues and take corrective action as needed. Effectively communicate with relevant personnel to ensure smooth workflow and issue resolution. Collaborate with QA, maintenance, and supervisory teams to support continuous improvement. Ensure all finished products are packed within specification and correctly labelled before dispatch. Reports to: Departmental Team Leader Key Relationships: Team leaders, Managers, team members in own and related departments, QA and maintenance personnel. Hours 40 hours per week Shifts Permanent nights, 11pm 7am Monday to Friday If you wish to apply please send your CV to by 28th September 2025 Responsibilities: Health & Safety Perform all duties in strict accordance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (PSOPs). Maintain a proactive focus on workplace safety, ensuring all tasks are carried out in line with safe working practices, risk assessments, and COSHH guidelines. Immediately report and document any accidents, incidents, or safety concerns to the Team Leader, ensuring all supporting records are completed accurately and promptly. Actively participate in safety tours, hazard identification exercises, and risk assessments as requested. Comply with statutory obligations under the Health & Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, including taking reasonable care for personal and team safety, and cooperating with the employer to ensure compliance. Communication Ensure effective shift handovers by clearly communicating all relevant operational details to the incoming team. Maintain open and timely communication with QA staff and other departments to ensure testing standards are met and potential issues are addressed promptly. Provide maintenance teams with complete and accurate information to support swift fault diagnosis and resolution. Contribute to root cause investigations (e.g., 5-Why sessions) following equipment breakdowns or production of non-conforming product. Maintain real-time, accurate records of all operational and quality parameters, and escalate unresolved non-conformances to the Team Leader without delay. Participate in regular one-to-one meetings with your Team Leader to support performance and development. Quality Assurance Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy. Uphold high standards of hygiene and housekeeping within the work area. Monitor product and process performance continuously, conducting online quality tests and taking prompt corrective action to maintain specification compliance. Collect product samples for microbiological and chemical testing as directed. Ensure full compliance with food safety and Critical Control Point (CCP) procedures outlined in PSOPs, and report any hygiene or safety risks immediately. Production Efficiency Operate string/shred equipment efficiently to meet production schedules and product specifications. Accurately add ingredients and monitor equipment performance throughout the shift. Complete and verify daily production log sheets and quality records. Ensure all products are packed within specification, correctly labelled, and free from contamination risks. Environmental Responsibility Minimise accidental spillages and report any occurrences immediately to the Team Leader. Participate fully in spill investigations and remedial actions. Dispose of waste in accordance with recycling protocols and environmental standards. Monitor detergent usage to ensure effective cleaning while minimising environmental impact. Report any potential environmental breaches to the Site Services Manager and support corrective actions. Understand departmental environmental targets and contribute positively to their achievement. Undertake any additional tasks necessary for the effective operation of the role, as directed by management. Participate in training for new methods and refresher courses, as well as cross-training across roles where appropriate. Support the training and competency assessment of colleagues. Specific Departmental Responsibilities String/Shred Process, pack, and accurately label string/shred products Effectively operate string/shred equipment Assist QA operators in product release/hold duties when requested by your Team Leader. Required to work within high and low care production areas Use of HMI (Human Machine Interface) data systems for the operation of equipment Regular wash, clean downs of equipment to ensure required hygiene standards Dissembling equipment, placing items in COP (clean off Place) tank and hosing and foaming all other equipment and area which requires working with chemicals, high noise levels and humid conditions Will be required to cover all areas of production/processing as and when required by the business. Carry out and comply with all company policies, procedures and instructions and any other reasonable duties deemed necessary by the company. A sufficient level of agility is required to access all areas of plant and equipment. Qualifications and Training Essential: Demonstrate competent numeracy and literacy skills. Desirable: English, Maths GCSE/O Level or equivalent, minimum of a C Grade. Experience Essential: A minimum of six months relevant work experience within a production or manufacturing environment is required. Desirable: Experience in a food production or dairy processing setting. Relevant experience in food/dairy manufacturing and production. Specialist Knowledge Essential: Candidates should possess a sound understanding of standards, equipment, and processes within a production or packing environment. Knowledge of safe working practices and what constitutes a safe workplace. Desirable: Knowledge of equipment and processes within the food/dairy production environment. Skills and Abilities Essential: Strong communication skills. Ability to maintain accurate records. Demonstrate initiative, effective problem-solving and planning skills.
