Digital forensic technician (ctpse)

Newbury
Technician
Posted: 16h ago
Offer description

The Digital Investigations Team at CTP South East sits at the heart of some of the region’s most critical Counter Terrorism operations. We specialise in extracting, analysing and explaining data from various types of devices ranging from mobiles phones and laptops to smart tech and drones. Our work plays a vital role in identifying and understanding the actions of those suspected of terrorism offences. We’re now looking for a Digital Forensic Technician to join our dynamic team. This is a role for someone who thrives under pressure, makes confident decisions, and brings sharp problem‑solving skills to fast‑moving investigations. You’ll extract data from a wide range of digital devices — mobiles, computers, multimedia systems, and CCTV — and support the smooth running of our lab through ISO 17025‑accredited processes and equipment validation. To succeed, you’ll need a solid grasp of the types of digital data stored on devices such as phones and computers, along with familiarity with common operating systems, apps, social media platforms, and core internet technologies. Experience in areas like investigative work, data interpretation, analytical thinking, and confident use of Microsoft tools will help you hit the ground running. Knowledge of specialist forensic software — including Cellebrite, FTK, or GrayKey — is a strong advantage. You must also be prepared to complete essential training courses covering the extraction and handling of data from mobile and computer devices. Due to the nature of the material we encounter, emotional and psychological resilience is essential. Successful applicants must be able to manage exposure to disturbing or offensive content, including extreme violence and obscenity. A psychological assessment is required before starting, followed by annual screenings once in post. Flexibility is key. Operational demands may require varied working hours and occasional travel away from home across the south east region. For this reason, a full UK driving licence is essential to be eligible for this role. Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC together with a number of enhanced security checks. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad. Please be aware that if successful there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries once in post. You can find more information about security vetting here. How To Apply To apply, click on the “Apply” button below and submit your application before the closing date of Sunday 8th February at 23:55hrs. Please be advised that we are accepting CVs only for this role. We kindly request that you submit an up-to-date CV that comprehensively details your relevant experience and qualifications. If you have any questions about the role, please contact RecruitmentSE@thamesvalley.police.uk quoting the Job Reference number 23180. If you have applied for this role in the last six months, we respectfully ask that you do not reapply at this current time. IMPORTANT: If you are already a Thames Valley Police (TVP) member of staff and you have been in your post for less than twelve months, your application must be supported by your line manager. We will require written confirmation from your line manager in order to proceed. Shift allowance, on-call or other job related allowances from your previous role will not be protected unless they are attached to the new role. We reserve the right to close this vacancy if we receive a high volume of applications.
