We are looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Tree Officer to join our team and play a vital role in managing, preserving and expanding the local tree population. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about arboriculture, biodiversity and community engagement.

Purpose of the Role
You will provide professional advice on a wide range of tree-related matters, including Tree Preservation Orders, tree works applications, hedgerow regulations, high hedges, landscape considerations, environmental projects, rights of way and the preparation of policies, strategies and consultations.

What you will be doing

Carry out proactive inspections of trees to ensure public safety and compliance with statutory and asset-management duties.
Assist with maintaining and updating the council’s tree inventory and management software to ensure accurate, up-to-date records.
Support the delivery of tree maintenance, tree husbandry and planting programmes.
Provide guidance and monitor the work of arboriculture contractors to ensure all specifications and standards are met.
Respond to tree-related enquiries from the public, offering clear, professional advice in line with council policies.
Promote and support tree planting and woodland creation projects, from initial planning through to delivery.
Liaise with partner organisations, volunteers, community groups and stakeholders.
Follow all Health & Safety requirements and operational codes of practice, ensuring appropriate PPE and training are always adhered to. About you

Strong knowledge of tree species, tree health, pests and diseases, structural defects, and the impacts of tree roots on buildings and surfaces.
Ability to assess trees and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
Well-organised, able to plan and prioritise your own workload to meet deadlines.
Able to communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—with the public, councillors, colleagues, partners and external organisations.
Customer-focused and confident when dealing with public enquiries.
Self-motivated, able to show initiative and work independently.
Competent with ICT systems and digital record-keeping.
Full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle. This is a fantastic opportunity for an arboriculturist with potential for long term contract extensions
