Graduate Engineers – Multiple UK Locations
Highways, Structures, Bridge Engineering & Civil Infrastructure
A leading international engineering and professional services consultancy—renowned for delivering high-impact projects for local authorities across the UK is seeking several Graduate Engineers to join its Communities Engineering teams. These permanent positions are available across several specialist teams and UK offices: Due to established partnerships with local councils, roles are site-based within the locations listed.
About the Organisation
Our client works closely with local authorities to deliver essential services across transport planning, regeneration, flood mitigation, net‑zero strategy, and infrastructure renewal. Teams support councils in improving mobility, upgrading ageing assets, enhancing safety, and delivering sustainable transport networks. Graduates benefit from exposure to both public‑ and private‑sector approaches, supported by specialist engineers across the UK.
Projects include major programmes delivered for county and regional councils such as: Lincolnshire, Gloucestershire, Norfolk, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend.
Working within a team managing over 1,500 structures, graduates will support inspections, assessments, design work and delivery of bridge maintenance and replacement schemes. The role offers excellent exposure to the full project lifecycle—from technical assessments through to on‑site supervision.
Typical activities:
* Inspecting bridges and related structures
* Preparing option reports and assessments
* Designing maintenance and improvement works
* Supervising site activities
Supporting major and minor highways schemes, graduates assist with the design and delivery of infrastructure ranging from cycleways to junction improvements and bypasses. Work will span concept development through to construction support.
Typical activities:
* Site investigations, surveys and data analysis
* Producing technical designs and drawings
* Preparing project documentation for review
* Tracking progress to agreed project milestones
* Managing smaller work packages with growing independence
Graduate Engineer – Structures or Civil Infrastructure (Cardiff, RCT)
This team delivers essential upgrades that support economic growth and network resilience across the region.
Structures graduates will:
* Conduct structural inspections
* Produce preliminary calculations
* Support optioneering and feasibility studies
Civil infrastructure graduates will:
* Learn drainage and hydraulic design fundamentals
* Use modelling tools to develop drainage networks
* Prepare drawings using AutoCAD
* Attend site visits and internal/external design meetings
Supporting local authorities across the Southwest, graduates assist with highway and bridge improvement schemes, active travel initiatives and structure maintenance programmes.
Highways responsibilities may include:
* Preparing drawings, reports and schedules
* Developing design packages aligned with national guidance
* Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
Structures responsibilities may include:
* Designing new or replacement bridges and retaining walls
* Supporting inspections, assessments, and repairs
* Working on projects from inception through construction
* Preparing reports and technical documentation
Working as part of an integrated team with the local council, graduates contribute to highway improvement works, structural maintenance, transport planning and routine asset management.
Typical activities:
* Assisting with scheme designs and documentation
* Participating in site inspections and assessments
* Preparing technical notes and reports

Candidate Requirements
* A minimum 2:2 bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline

* Confidence to contribute new ideas and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
* Availability to start in April or September 2026
