Therapy Assistant Practitioner - Surgery and Gastroenterology

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and friendly Band 4 Assistant Practitioner to join our Inpatient Therapy Team here at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
We are looking for someone who has previous Therapy Support Worker experience within Physiotherapy and/ or Occupational Therapy teams. Successful post holders will carry a non-complex patient caseload, working with patients from assessment through to discharge.
Additional specific training will be provided by the established therapists to enable successful candidates to provide protocol based therapies and work autonomously delivering patient centred physiotherapy and occupational therapy to our Surgical and Gastroenterological patients. This post covers Surgical and gastroenterology wards
Main duties of the job
The post holders will assist with supporting patients and families to manage their physical, social and psychological needs and carry their own caseload including advice and support in terms of discharge planning. The post involves working alongside qualified therapists as well as with other members of the support worker team to provide therapy input to patients across the acute Surgical and Gastroenterological wards.
The post holder needs to be flexible, have good time management skills, confident IT skills, and work well in a team as well as independently. Visits out into the community are part of the role therefore post holders will require UK driving licence.
We expect the post holder to manage their own caseload and be able to support or delegate duties appropriately.
We are delighted to be able to offer patients the opportunity of assessment and treatment over the weekend and Bank Holidays which is worked pro rata via a rota.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades 9-4/A-C)
* Evidence of Knowledge and skills sufficient to demonstrate the ability and willingness to study and work at the level equivalent to a foundation degree
* Foundation Degree or equivalent / or willingness to work towards.
Experience and knowledge
* Previous work experience within the Therapy Care Group or Health Care environment e.g. Community Rehab/Therapy teams
* Knowledge of therapy interventions acquired through training or experience within a healthcare setting to foundation degree level
* Knowledge of the role of the assistant practitioner and the boundaries of the position.
* Basic understanding of the patient condition and its impact on the therapy intervention.
* Experience in liaising with other agencies
* To have knowledge and experience of common condition in the acute setting and the impact on the therapy intervention
* Knowledge and experience in caring for patients in the medical setting who present with complex conditions.
