Salary: £45,585-£54,395 (a revised salary range for this grade of £48,350 to £59,421 is planned to take effect from Spring 2024).

The Department of European Languages and Cultures, part of the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures, invites applications for a Lecturer in German Studies. The lectureship is tenable from September 2024 on an open-ended basis.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and enthusiastic colleague, delivering and convening courses on German and Germanophone culture, literature, society, politics and/or history, as well as German language, at all levels of the degree programme, and will develop research-led courses within their field, as well as contributing to team-taught comparative modules offered across the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures. The post-holder will be welcomed to contribute to postgraduate taught programmes in areas such as Intermediality, Translation Studies and/or Comparative Literature. The post-holder will play an active role in the administrative tasks of the Department and School.
The appointee will be a world-class researcher in German Studies with a portfolio of publications. They will bring their research expertise Germanophone culture, literature, society, politics, or history to be a core part of our research environment. The post-holder will be expected to collaborate with other colleagues in the School as part of a broader effort to decolonise our curriculum and critical lenses.
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in a relevant field and show a developing profile of international excellence in research and publications, with a potential for attracting research funding, and a proven ability to supervise postgraduate students.

Your skills and attributes for success:
* PhD in a relevant area.
* Fluency in written and spoken German to degree level with excellent oral and written communication skills in German and English.
* Experience of teaching German Studies at university level with clear potential to enhance the student experience.
* A developing profile of international excellence in relevant research and publications.
* Evidence of ability to supervise student work at all levels.
* Experience teaching in interdisciplinary fields such as Intermediality would be an advantage.
