Job Opportunity: Catering Chef – Temporary Contract (Kelso, The Borders)
Location: Kelso, The Borders
Duration: Starting ASAP – for 3 weeks initially, with the potential for extension
Rate: £16 per hour
Hours:
1. Monday to Thursday: 7:00am – 2:00pm
2. Friday: 7:00am – 11:30am
We are seeking an experienced Catering Chef to provide cover at one of our clients busy contract catering sites in Kelso. This is a great opportunity for a Senior Sous Chef, Head Chef, or Chef Manager looking for a short-term role with a friendly and professional team.
About the Role:
You'll be leading kitchen operations with the support of three experienced catering assistants, catering for approximately 250 on-site employees. The kitchen has an open-plan layout, so we're looking for someone personable and engaging, who enjoys interacting with staff and customers alike.
Key Responsibilities:
3. Prepare hot breakfast items (e.g., morning rolls)
4. Produce daily soup, two main lunch dishes, baked potatoes, pastries, and composite salads
5. Ensure high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness
6. Place food orders and manage stock levels
7. Assist with general cleaning duties
8. Maintain a friendly and approachable presence in an open kitchen setting
Ideal Candidate:
9. Strong background in contract catering or high-volume food service
10. Confident leading a small kitchen team
11. Sociable, organised, and proactive
12. Able to start quickly and hit the ground running
