Interim Transport Manager needed in Isle Of Wight, £ Salary is Negotiable per day PAYE - Reference: TH2
The Interim Transport Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining full legal and environmental compliance of HGV fleet. The role focuses on ensuring that waste collection and transfer activities are supported by a safe, efficient, and fully compliant transport operation. While not responsible for direct line management of drivers, the post holder is expected to liaise closely with operational teams and drivers to ensure daily activities are coordinated and compliant with regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure all HGV operations comply with Operator Licence (O Licence) requirements, including preventative maintenance schedules, MOTs, inspections, and defect rectification.
Manage and maintain accurate records relating to vehicle maintenance, inspections, tachographs, and driver hours in line with DVSA and company standards.
Act as the nominated CPC Transport Manageronthe O Licence (if required).
Liaise with external workshops, hire providers, and contractors to ensure vehicle availability and regulatory compliance.
Operational Coordination
Work closely with Operations Managers and service delivery teams to align transport activity with waste collection and transfer schedules.
Ensure vehicle availability and readiness in line with daily service requirements.
Support in planning efficient routes and transport movements that minimise environmental impact and fuel use.
Monitor utilisation and condition of vehicles, flagging issues that may affect service delivery or compliance.
Safety and Environmental Assurance
Promote and uphold safety-first practices within transport operations.
Support site safety initiatives and contribute to vehicle-related risk assessments, safe systems of work, and toolbox talks (in a support, not managerial, capacity).
Ensure environmental standards are upheld, particularly in relation to vehicle emissions, fluid management, and load containment.
Reporting and Audit Readiness
Maintain transport documentation to ensure readiness for DVSA inspections or audits at any time.
Produce accurate reports relating to fleet usage, compliance status, and transport KPIs as required.
Assist the wider operations team with any investigations relating to vehicle compliance or incidents.
Qualifications
Transport Manager CPC (National/International) Essential
Full UK Driving Licence Essential
HGV Category C or CE Licence Desirable
IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Desirable
This is a full time role on a temporary contract basis.
