Description Role: Assistant/Associate Professor (Knowledge Exchange) Grade and Salary: Grade 8 (£46,735 - £57,422 per annum) or Grade 9 (£57,422 - £68,529 per annum) FTE and working pattern: 1 FTE, 35hrs per week Holiday Entitlement: 33 days annual leave plus 9 buildings closed days (and Christmas Eve when it falls on a weekday) Purpose of Role The Department of Mathematics seeks to appoint an Assistant/Associate Professor in Knowledge Exchange to complement and enhance the expertise of both the Department of Mathematics and the Mathematics Driven Innovation Centre (M-DICE). The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the Department’s knowledge exchange activities and fostering collaboration with internal and external partners – including those in academia, industry, public sector and government – to translate academic research into real-world impact. They will strengthen existing partnerships and establish new ones, driven by a strong commitment of impactful research. In addition, the appointee will contribute to the Department’s core teaching activities. Key Duties & Responsibilities The post holder will: Facilitate and lead Knowledge Exchange and Impact, strengthening existing partnerships and establishing new ones Supervise students and actively pursue research funding through the submission of high-quality grant proposals Develop and deliver industry-informed teaching in mathematics at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and work successfully in global teaching teams; Carry out such administrative and recruitment activities as may be required to achieve these aims; Be responsible to the Head of Department for performing the activities listed above in a way that will maintain and enhance the School’s reputation for excellence. The successful candidate will be based at our Edinburgh, UK, campus. Essential & Desirable Criteria To be considered for the role the candidate must have a PhD in mathematical sciences, evidence of collaboration with external partners (industry, public sector) and a strong research track record at international level, demonstrated through publications, citations, external invitations, and research funding. They must also have the relevant experience or potential to be able to successfully engage with our undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics teaching programmes, including the supervision of PhD students. The Department has a strong collaborative ethos, and the successful candidate will have the aspiration to develop our KE portfolio, world-class research activity and the drive and commitment to contribute to and develop our teaching programme. The successful candidate will have a track record that demonstrates engagement of mathematical sciences research with other disciplines and a portfolio of KE activities. Essential E1: A PhD in mathematical sciences E2: Track-record of engagement of mathematical sciences research with other disciplines & knowledge exchange activities E3: Track-record of internationally recognised research with excellent publications E4: Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Desirable D1: Track record of successful and innovative teaching, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. D2: Track record of successful supervision of PhD students and/or PDRAs or experience in supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students. D3: Track record of research funding. About the Team The Department of Mathematics is part of the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, which also includes the Departments of Actuarial Mathematics & Statistics and of Computer Science.
