About Llanilltud Faerdref Primary School:
Llanilltud Faerdref Primary School is a welcoming and inclusive school at the heart of its community. We are proud to benefit from a modern school building, which opened in April 2024, providing high-quality facilities to support teaching, learning and wellbeing. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive and stimulating environment where all pupils can thrive and achieve their full potential. The school places a strong emphasis on wellbeing, high-quality teaching and learning, and fostering positive relationships across the whole school community. Staff work collaboratively to create a nurturing ethos, and we value the important contribution that every member of our team makes in ensuring our pupils feel safe, respected and inspired to succeed.
Main Duties of the Role:
The Caretaker plays a vital role in ensuring that the school site remains safe, secure, clean and well maintained at all times. Key responsibilities include unlocking and securing the premises each day, maintaining high standards of cleanliness across designated areas, and overseeing the work of cleaning contractors (currently Solo) to ensure expectations are consistently met.
The role involves regular site supervision, undertaking minor maintenance and repair tasks, and contributing to the overall presentation of the school environment. The Caretaker is also responsible for carrying out routine health and safety checks, maintaining fire safety systems, supporting water management processes, and completing all required statutory compliance checks.
In addition, the Caretaker will manage site supplies and work closely with Robertson Facilities Management (RFM) to ensure that planned preventative maintenance jobs (PPM’s) are completed efficiently and accurately recorded.
The postholder will also support the day-to-day running of the school through duties such as supervising gates at the beginning and end of the school day, preparing the building for reopening following holiday periods, and ensuring the site remains safe, accessible and operational during periods of adverse weather.
Skills and Qualities Sought from Candidates:
We are seeking a reliable, flexible and committed individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with staff, pupils and external agencies. They should demonstrate the ability to follow instructions while also working independently and using their initiative when required. A practical skill set, including basic maintenance and cleaning, is desirable, alongside a willingness to undertake further training. Candidates should have a strong sense of responsibility, good organisational habits and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Above all, we are looking for someone dependable, with a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to supporting the smooth running of a primary school.
PROTECTING CHILDREN AND ADULTS AT RISK IS A CORE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SCHOOL AND COUNCIL. IN ADDITION TO THIS SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITY, THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT FOR THE ROLE WILL ALSO BE SUBJECT TO AN ENHANCED DISCLOSURE AND BARRING SERVICE CHECK.
