In This Role, You Will
Support the Student
* Develop an understanding of the specific needs of pupils to be supported
* Develop a knowledge of a range of learning support needs relevant to the school and its pupils
* Aid the pupils to learn as effectively as possible, both in group situations and individually, inside and outside of the classroom
* Establish a supportive relationship with the pupils concerned
* Establish acceptance and inclusion of the pupils in the classroom
* Manage pupils as advised by the SEND Manager and Class Teacher
* Use methods of promoting/reinforcing the pupils’ self-esteem
* Ensure the safety of the pupils while in your care
* Carry out any specific duties as outlined in the pupils’ individual support plans
Support the SENDCo, SEND Manager and Class Teacher
* Assist the SENDCo, SEND Manager and Class Teacher in developing a suitable programme of support and then carry out the programme within the classroom or in a withdrawal situation
* Lead the delivery and assessment of suitable literacy programmes for small groups of students and one-to-one sessions
* Maintain the SEN team’s system of recording and monitoring pupils’ progress
* Provide feedback about pupils’ difficulties and/or progress to the SEND Manager and Class Teacher
* Write reports about the pupils’ progress as requested by the SEND Manager
* Participate in the evaluation of the support programme with the SEND Manager and Class Teacher
* Help adapt/find differentiated materials to enable pupils to access the class curriculum
* Report any problems about arrangements or any incidents to the SEND Manager or, if unavailable, to the Class Teacher
Support the School
* Where appropriate, foster links between home and school
* Liaise, advise and consult with other members of the SEN Team
* Contribute to annual review meetings, as appropriate
* Participate in relevant professional development
* Be aware of/follow school policies and procedures
* Maintain confidentiality about home-school/pupil-teacher/schoolwork matters
* Complete any other task as directed by the Headteacher
Hours: 34 hours per week (8am – 3.20pm Monday to Thursday, 8am – 3.10pm Friday, including a half-hour unpaid break each day), 39 weeks per year, term time + 5 Inset Days.
