The role
As a Mechanical Fitter within our Combat Systems section, you’ll be at the heart of maintaining and repairing critical systems that keep our naval fleet operational. This is a role that makes a real difference – supporting national defence, protecting communities, and contributing to global security. Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Completing planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated work to meet business objectives
2. Identifying and rectifying system defects and alterations to ensure performance and availability
3. Carrying out repairs and inspections on combat systems equipment and occasionally across other sections
4. Working within all Health & Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work
5. Suggesting improvements to processes and systems to boost productivity.
This is a full-time, permanent role, working 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (07:15 – 16:45), based on site at HMNB Clyde.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter:
6. Previous experience in a marine or industrial engineering environment, or mechanical maintenance
7. Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions
8. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and solve problems effectively
9. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards
10. Knowledge of maintenance procedures, risk assessments, and COSHH.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter:
11. Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3, NVQ, or City & Guilds equivalent)
12. OR HNC or above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
