Locum Consultant - T&O Surgery WSI in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery

MSE Hospitals is seeking an exceptional Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery to join our expanding team across the MSE Group.

This role is a key appointment designed to strengthen the specialist trauma service at Southend Hospital. We are recruiting a Consultant with a special interest in orthopaedic trauma surgery, who will work alongside a highly experienced team of more than 50 Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultants across the organisation.

The successful candidate will primarily be based at the Southend Hospital site, contributing to the delivery of high‑quality trauma care, supporting service development, and working collaboratively within a dynamic, forward‑thinking department.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to participate in the Trust's clinical effectiveness, and to maintain and foster improvements in the quality and standards of clinical services. The post‑holder will lead the safeguarding of high standards of care by participating in the creation of an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish.

You will be under the guidance of the Clinical Director and will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of the directorate's Clinical Governance Strategy, including matters such as the production of a departmental annual clinical governance plan and production of regular reports to ensure targets within the plan are met. This would allow for the adoption of evidence based practice including compliance with government guidance, the establishment and implementation of a departmental clinical audit programme, completion of a risk assessment and compliance with the Trust's risk management policies and strategies including controls assurance standards.

Other expectations would include ensuring, through the Management Team, Unit Training Director that Directorate staff meet the education and training targets agreed within the Trust's annual plan.

Timely and effective complaints and incident management including implementing action plans relating to individual complaints and incidents, as would contributing to workforce planning to ensure timely availability of appropriate clinical skills to maintain excellence in patient care.

Job responsibilities

Clinical care for patients with orthopaedic conditions referred/admitted to MSE and participation in the management of orthopaedic trauma and musculoskeletal infection. Development and support for provision of orthopaedic services as part of a network across the East of England.

* Attend departmental and divisional meetings as required
* Promote a friendly and team based working environment in line with our Trust Values.
* To undertake managerial and budgetary responsibilities as required.
* Teaching of primary care colleagues and junior medical staff through mixture of case-based review and formal teaching activity

Person Specification

* Full GMC Registration
* Advanced Knowledge and Experience in Childrens Orthopaedic Surgery
* Worked at Consultant Level
* Experience of Major Surgical Procedures
* NHS Experience
