We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Band 5 Registered General Nurse to join our healthcare team at HMP Chelmsford. Hours: Full-time | 08:00 - 18:00 (Days) + scheduled 10:00 - 20:00 shifts on rotation
Contract Type: Permanent, 40 hours
Main duties of the job
* Provide primary care services including assessment of self-harming and serious injury. Some patients may also be suffering from mental health and substance misuse issues.
* Work as part of a team delivering care within the Healthcare Centre and on the Wings / House blocks within the prison environment.
* Operate autonomously within scope of competency, supporting and guiding less experienced staff.
* Assess patients, plan care, administer treatment, and discharge or refer as appropriate.
* Assess prisoners' fitness for detention, release, or transfer.
* Refer to appropriate teams for alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal management.
* Carry out first reception screening, making appropriate recommendations and referrals to ensure prisoner safety.
* Maintain complete and accurate clinical records.
* Responsible for emergency radios and attending emergency calls, making rapid clinical decisions.
* Participate in clinical consultations within the enhanced care unit.
* Support clinical audits and remain professional and unbiased in care delivery.
