Lead Pharmacist – Northwest Sussex (Band 8a)
Full Time – 37.5 hours | Permanent | Crawley
A senior clinical leadership role shaping medicines optimisation and pharmacy services across inpatient mental health settings.
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Lead Pharmacist to lead pharmacy services across Northwest Sussex, primarily based at Langley Green Hospital.
About the role
This is a senior leadership role within pharmacy, combining clinical expertise, service leadership and team development across inpatient and urgent care services.
You will lead the delivery of a high-quality clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation service, ensuring patients receive safe, effective and evidence-based treatment.
Responsibilities
* Leading pharmacy services across inpatient wards and urgent care settings
* Providing expert clinical advice and pharmacotherapeutic guidance
* Supporting medicines optimisation and patient safety initiatives
* Working closely within multidisciplinary teams across services
* Leading and developing pharmacy staff, including line management responsibilities
* Supporting education, training and workforce development
* Contributing to service development, audit and quality improvement
* Supporting integration with acute Trust partners to improve physical and mental health outcomes
You will also play a key role in the development of a new in-house Pharmacy Hub (2026), supporting innovation and future service delivery.
Working pattern
* Primarily based at Langley Green Hospital, with cross-site working as required
* On-call (advisory only) – currently less than 1 in 30 weeks

About you
You will be an experienced clinical pharmacist with strong leadership capability and a passion for improving mental health care.
You will hold:
* Degree in Pharmacy and GPhC registration
* Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification
You will also demonstrate:
* Experience within mental health clinical pharmacy
* Ability to lead and influence across multidisciplinary teams
* Strong clinical decision-making and analytical skills
* Experience supporting or leading service development and improvement
* Confidence in managing teams and developing staff
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
