Role Summary

We are looking for a motivated Registered Nurse, dedicated to providing high quality, safe care to join our team. As a Staff Member on Ward 11B you will have opportunities to care for a range of patients, with conditions such as GI bleeds, Electro‑ and Emergency Endoscopy procedures, Palliative care patients, Alcohol dependency, Eating disorders, and Oesophageal and Liver disorders. Experience in a similar environment is desirable, but induction will support new staff.


Responsibilities

* Responsible in association with the team leader for the formulation and implementation of individual patient care plans.
* Participate in holistic assessment of patients, formulate and review care plans, act as ‘named nurse’ or associate for a group of patients from admission to discharge.
* Participate in research/special projects as directed by the ward manager.
* Contribute to setting, maintaining and monitoring standards of care within the ward.
* Help ensure all equipment is in safe working order in conjunction with the department equipment controller.
* Assist in the promotion of effective communication with all ward staff and other departments as required.
* Promote safeguarding of vulnerable patients in line with national and local policy.
* Provide and receive complex information, communicating sensitively and confidentially about patients or clients.
* Communicate compassionately and empathetically, using persuasion and reassurance.
* Recognise and modify communication style to overcome barriers.
* Provide training to students and communicate effectively with the wider MDT team.


Clinical Skills

* Plan and organise a defined caseload of patients on a continuing basis.
* Assess, plan, implement/deliver and evaluate patient care, recognise signs of deterioration/change and respond according to protocol.
* Maintain appropriate levels of training for clinical skills within scope of practice.
* Maintain safe custody of drugs, ensuring statutory and trust requirements are met.
* Effectively respond to complaints/concerns, escalating as required.
* Manage clinical incidents and near misses, reporting and escalating timely.
* Act as patient advocate within multidisciplinary team decision‑making.
* Work within organisational policy, SOPs and guidelines.
* Conduct risk assessments, implement risk‑reducing measures and report deficiencies.
* Ensure privacy, dignity and safety of individuals at all times.


Use of Resources

* Participate in effective and efficient use of ward/department resources and equipment, including stock management.
* Handle patient valuables with safe storage and transportation.
* Sign off agency timesheets to verify hours worked.
* Liaise with Roster Coordinator to ensure balanced roster.
* Order and receipt goods in accordance with the Trust’s financial framework.


Team Development

* Deputise in the absence of Sister/Charge Nurse.
* Manage own time and that of others through delegation to ensure quality service delivery.
* Act as assessor/supervisor for junior staff and students.
* Participate in setting yearly personal and professional objectives.
* Support appraisal process for junior staff by providing feedback.
* Be flexible in delivering safe staffing across the Trust and participate in redeployment.


Research and Audit

* Contribute to collection of data for research and audit purposes.
* Identify audit topics relevant to the ward/department.
* Critically evaluate research before applying to clinical practice.


Personal Development

* Identify areas for self‑development and training requirements within personal performance planning.
* Maintain a professional portfolio and reflective diary for revalidation.
* Support team by promoting self‑help and wellbeing.
* Develop a culture of learning and innovation, creating high‑quality learning environments.
* Adopt a reflective approach to own practice for continuous improvement.

Due to current service demands, we are only able to consider applicants who have relevant UK experience.
