The Role:
Reporting directly to the Compliance Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the firm adheres to its obligations under the SRA Standards and Regulations, AML legislation, GDPR, and wider risk and regulatory frameworks. The role supports the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of compliance procedures across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct client and matter risk assessments, including CDD, EDD, and ongoing AML monitoring.
* Assist with conflict checks, confidentiality assessments, and internal compliance reviews.
* Maintain and update key compliance records and internal risk registers (e.g. breaches, complaints, data protection, gifts).
* Provide frontline support on AML and ID verification queries.
* Monitor compliance dashboards and address non-conformity with internal policies.
* Support policy updates, document management, and the internal compliance knowledge base.
* Manage and respond to routine data breach reports and assist with DPIAs, Subject Access Requests, and data audits.
* Prepare for regulatory audits (e.g. Lexcel, ISO9001, independent AML audits).
* Assist with staff inductions and firmwide compliance training initiatives.
* Conduct legal research and contribute to internal compliance guidance materials.
* Support onboarding procedures to ensure alignment with firm protocols.
* Provide basic support in handling client complaints in collaboration with the Compliance Solicitor.
Candidate Profile:
This role would suit someone with prior experience in compliance, preferably in a law firm setting. Candidates must be discreet, thorough, and able to manage sensitive information with professionalism.
Skills and Attributes:
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong organisation, time management, and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
* High attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and policy interpretation.
* Confident in using MS Office and legal tech tools (e.g. Power BI, case management systems).
* Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across all departments.
The Firm Offers a supportive, inclusive, and forward-thinking working environment with an excellent benefits package.
