A significant portion of this investment will support the National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) business in the UK, where we maintain the high-voltage network in England and Wales-transporting power from windfarms and other sources through pylons, lines, cables and substations to local distribution networks that serve homes and businesses.
About the role
As Head of Strategy, you will lead the development and delivery of NGET's long term strategic direction. Working closely with the NGET Executive, you'll translate our RIIO T3 Ofgem commitments into a clear, actionable strategy that guides priorities, decision making and our future operating model. You will ensure this strategy remains current, embedded across the organisation, and understood at every level.
You will shape an enterprise wide view of NGET's future, providing strategic leadership while partnering with Transformation and other enabling teams. Although highly collaborative, this role carries clear strategic ownership-ensuring NGET has an ambitious, coherent and practical strategy that drives the business forward.
We offer flexibility on location, with regular travel to our Warwick office for key meetings. The role supports a blend of office and home working.
Summary of Key Accountabilities
* Lead the development and ongoing evolution of an enterprise strategy for NGET, grounded in regulatory commitments, customer needs and industry best practice.
* Translate NGET's long term network vision and regulatory commitments into a clear strategic roadmap with defined priorities and outcomes.
* Align the organisation's operating model, decision making framework and business plans to the strategy.
* Work with the NGET Executive to establish measures, targets and KPIs that underpin the target end state vision, translating it into a clear, compelling and actionable transformation plan.
* Ensure alignment and integration across enterprise level initiatives to support delivery of the long term vision.
* Shape NGET's strategic narrative, providing insight and recommendations that enable senior leadership decision making on priorities, opportunities and risks.
* Collaborate with the Transformation team and other enabling functions to ensure the organisational change and capabilities needed for successful strategy delivery.
* Serve as custodian of the NGET strategy, ensuring it remains current, credible and actively used to guide business decisions.
What you'll need
You’ll bring strong experience in enterprise strategy, business planning and strategic leadership, ideally gained in a complex, regulated environment.
You will demonstrate:
* A proven ability to set and maintain long term strategic direction aligned to customer needs, regulatory requirements and internal priorities.
* Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear insights and recommendations.
* Experience structuring and leading complex strategic work to create actionable plans.
* A track record of influencing and securing buy in from Executives and senior stakeholders across diverse business areas.
* Excellent communication skills, able to articulate a compelling narrative across all levels of the organisation.
* The confidence and credibility to champion long term strategy as a visible, inspiring strategic leader.
