Job summary
We are seeking a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry.
The post is based at the Hemel Hempstead Community Mental Health Service. Responsibilities include providing clinical leadership, diagnostic assessments, and treatment to service users with severe, complex, and high-risk psychiatric conditions.
The ACMHS (Adult Community Mental Health Services) core team integrates specialist medical, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, support workers, STAR workers, and administrative staff under a unified management structure. ACMHS also employs specialists in vocational support and psychological therapies, including Psychotherapy, DBT, CBT, Art and Drama Therapy, and group therapy.
Minimum experience: 2 years in psychiatry is essential. Candidates without this experience may be considered for an alternative posting with different grade and pay.
Note: We use a collated interview approach for all SAS vacancies across the Trust. Candidates will be considered for the post applied for first; if filled but the candidate is deemed suitable, they may be offered an alternative post, which could differ in department and location.
Main duties of the job
1. Assess and treat people of working age within the catchment area referred to secondary care mental health services.
2. Conduct triage via the Single Point of Access (SPA) to determine assessment eligibility.
3. Refer service users with psychotic or non-psychotic disorders, severe, complex, high-risk, or diagnostic uncertainty, for face-to-face assessments at The Marlowes.
4. Offer joint MDT assessments using semi-structured, needs-based tools and clinical judgment.
5. Develop biopsychosocial care plans and provide evidence-based treatment and advice, managing caseload actively.
