Digital Skills Trainer, Band 5

The post holder will focus on building digital confidence, competence and curiosity across the organisation, enabling colleagues to use a wide range of digital tools safely, effectively and confidently in their daily work.

The role has a Trust-wide remit, supporting clinical and non-clinical colleagues with everyday digital tools, new technologies and evolving ways of working.

The Digital Skills Trainer will be a proactive, forward-thinking individual who can work independently, identify opportunities for improvement, and confidently design and deliver engaging digital learning.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of digital knowledge, training expertise and practical experience. They will have confidence using Microsoft 365 and other digital tools, with experience of designing and delivering engaging learning for a range of audiences. They will be able to explain technical concepts in plain English, adapt their approach to different learning needs, and use feedback and insight to improve training.

Experience of supporting others to build digital skills, creating learning resources, working independently and building positive relationships across teams will be essential. A proactive, curious and improvement-focused approach, together with a commitment to inclusive practice and continuous development, will be key to success in this role.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will design, develop and deliver high-quality digital skills training to support colleagues across the Trust to use digital tools safely, effectively and confidently in their roles. This will include a broad range of systems and platforms such as Microsoft 365, clinical applications, and collaboration tools. The role will use a blended learning approach, including face‑to‑face sessions, virtual delivery, and the creation of self‑service resources such as guides and videos, ensuring training is accessible and tailored to different learning needs and confidence levels.

The Digital Skills Trainer will build strong relationships with clinical and non‑clinical teams, working collaboratively with Digital, Technology & Insights (DTI), HR/OD and wider stakeholders to identify skills gaps and support adoption of new technologies and ways of working. They will proactively identify opportunities to improve digital confidence and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

The post holder will also evaluate training effectiveness using feedback and data, adapting content and approaches to continuously improve outcomes. They will maintain accurate records of training activity, contribute to quality improvement and act as a positive role model for digital professionalism, innovation and a learning culture across the organisation.

Job responsibilities

* Design, develop and deliver high-quality digital skills training to colleagues across the Trust, covering a range of systems and platforms including Microsoft 365, clinical applications and collaboration tools.
* Deliver engaging training using a blended approach, including face‑to‑face sessions, virtual delivery, bite‑sized learning and self‑service resources such as guides and videos.
* Adapt training methods and content to meet the needs of different staff groups, roles and digital confidence levels, ensuring accessibility and inclusion.
* Support colleagues to build confidence, capability and good digital practice, including data handling and digital safety.
* Work collaboratively with Digital, Technology & Insights (DTI), HR/OD and other stakeholders to identify digital skills gaps and support adoption of new technologies and ways of working.
* Build effective working relationships with clinical and non‑clinical teams, influencing and encouraging engagement with digital learning.
* Proactively identify opportunities to improve digital skills provision and contribute to service improvement and innovation initiatives.
* Evaluate the effectiveness of training through feedback and data, using insight to continuously improve content and delivery approaches.
* Maintain accurate records of training delivery, attendance and evaluation activity.
* Act as a positive role model for digital professionalism, learning and continuous improvement across the organisation.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (e.g. Education, IT, Digital, Training) or equivalent experience.


Knowledge

* Evidence of training or teaching qualification (e.g. Level 3 Award in Education and Training) or willingness to work towards.
* Evidence of continuing professional development in digital skills, learning design or training delivery.
* Knowledge or awareness of adult learning principles and digital pedagogy.
* Microsoft 365 confidence.
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools (e.g. Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Forms).
* Ability to design and deliver engaging, accessible training using a range of methods (face‑to‑face, virtual, digital resources).
* Strong communication and facilitation skills, able to explain complex concepts in plain English.
* Ability to adapt training to suit different learning needs, confidence levels and staff groups.
* Digital safety, data handling and good practice awareness.
* Ability to evaluate training effectiveness and use feedback/data to improve.
* Confidence using digital tools to create learning content (e.g. guides, videos, presentations).
* Experience of delivering training or learning sessions to groups or individuals.
* Experience of designing and developing digital learning solutions (e.g. training sessions, guides, videos, or e‑learning resources).
* Experience of supporting others to develop digital skills or use IT systems.
* Experience of working independently and managing own workload.
* Experience of developing or adapting training materials or resources.
* Experience of stakeholder engagement across different teams or departments.
* Enthusiastic and curious about digital technology and innovation.
* Proactive and able to use initiative to identify and solve problems.
* Confident working independently with minimal supervision.
* Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships across teams.
