Overview

We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The role: A full UK driving license is essential for this role.
To undertake an extensive variety of building maintenance and repair tasks including joinery work ranging from fit out work, ceiling repairs, partition construction to workshop manufactured joinery (doors etc.). Works with all types of ironmongery, lock suites, access control, exit devices and window mechanisms. To carry out inspection, maintenance and repair of all internal and external building fabric, structural/non-structural elements such as roof, wall, floor, ceiling, partition and cladding systems. To carry out minor works including alteration and refurbishments in compliance with NHS Healthcare Standards and health & safety legislation. To inspect, repair and maintain all fixed and non-fixed NHS assets and equipment.

* This position will be based at Inverclyde Royal Hospital
* The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, plus on call
Key responsibilities
* Carry out manufacture, repair and maintenance of all aspects of Carpentry and Joinery within Healthcare facilities in compliance with relevant Health Building Notes, HAI SCRIBE policies & procedures, as well as industry Codes of Practice, Technical Standards and H&S requirements
* Operate, adjust and maintain a complete range of workshop and woodworking machinery without supervision in a safe and proper manner to manufacture or maintain carpentry and joinery components
* Operate a complete range of portable hand and power tools without supervision in a safe and proper manner to maintain and repair internal and external building assets and elements
* Installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of all types of steel/aluminium/UPVC/timber door and window systems
* Installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of all types of Door, Fire Door and Final Exit Door systems including frame assembly
* Installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of all ironmongery products including window/door catches, closers, hinges, restrictors, locks including traditional cylinder locks and digital security locks
* Installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of a complete range of fixed and non-fixed assets such as furniture, cabinetry, filing cabinets, storage units, screens, anti-ligature fixtures and fittings, curtain rails, blinds, rollers, beds and trolleys. This list is non-exhaustive
* Carry out safe isolation and make safe electrical assets to facilitate maintenance and repair follow up remedial action with site AP Electrical
* Participate in fire alarm testing procedures including safe isolation of sounders and detectors to facilitate maintenance activities
* Carry out medical gas works in line with boundaries of CP appointment and replacement of 2nd Fix terminal outlets
* Design, manufacture, install and repair shelving and storage units

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
* Served a recognised apprenticeship in a Carpentry & Joinery or Building related discipline
* Qualifications: City & Guilds, BM Trada, FDIS NVQ
* HNC is relevant Building related discipline or completion of recognised courses Section 2
* Attend training courses as required by Estates Management and NHS Policies and Procedures, the post holder must undergo specialised training in systems and equipment to gain the in depth theoretical knowledge required to comply with numerous laws, national guidelines and standards. In order to fulfil these requirements within a health care environment, the post holder requires training and regular re-certification in order to maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of their competency and expertise on revised regulations. e.g
* Mandatory First Aid duties for working with electricity; to level of competence and training to meet requirements of safe code of practice for working with electricity
* H&S training on the safe operation and control of wood working machinery
* Medical Gas
* Formal appointment as Competent Person, Confined Spaces: One week training and certification and appointed in writing by Authorised Person, Confined Spaces (revalidation training and certification every three years)
* Formal training on the Asbestos Regulations 2002, (revalidation training and certification every three years)
* Flooring installation and repair qualification
* Access equipment; training on routine Safety Inspection
* Electrical awareness and safe isolation procedures in line with SHTM-06-01 as to fulfil duties as a restricted CP
* Working Knowledge of National NHS Scotland Technical Standards, “Scottish Health Technical Memorandums (SHTMs)” Operational and Management Procedures
* Board Mandatory H&S training: Manual Handling, COSSH, Fire Safety etc
* Ability to work unsupervised
* These additional qualifications in conjunction with the core requirements are deemed to equal HNC Level (equating to an intermediate level of theoretical knowledge). Enhanced training listed in section 2 is a mandatory requirement for the post and will be provided on the job from date of appointment
