We have a very exciting opportunity to join the Trust for a 12-month secondment as Head of Commercial. This is a new role within the organisation to shape our commercial activities.
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual with excellent leadership and communication skills. The Head of Commercial will be responsible for the development and delivery of the commercial strategy for the Trust and for providing a framework within which commercial opportunities can thrive.
You will be responsible for increasing the Trust's commercial income and market share, working with internal and external stakeholders locally and internationally, and building capacity and capability in commercial skills within the Trust to support delivery of our Strategic Objectives.
Our ideal candidate will have significant senior management experience in a commercial role, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and an innovative and creative approach to income generation.
Main duties of the job
* The Head of Commercial reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for providing commercial leadership to the Trust. The role will provide commercial advice, raise awareness of, and maximise commercial opportunities that support the delivery of the Trust's strategic objectives.
* The post holder will be accountable for the development and delivery of the commercial strategy for the Trust and for providing a framework within which commercial opportunities can safely thrive.
* The post holder will build on the Trust's strengths to expand the depth and scope of current commercial developments where there is potential for growth, increased income generation, and innovation.
* The Head of Commercial will support the growth of market share by identifying new commercial business opportunities, including new international opportunities, using data and market research, benchmarking, networks, and strategic alliances.
* The Head of Commercial will ensure that all commercial activities comply with legal, regulatory, and governance requirements. The post holder will ensure that commercial risks are identified and quantified, and that the Trust's mitigation response is clearly articulated and documented.
Job responsibilities
* Support the development and implementation of a commercial strategy for the Trust that achieves the Trust's strategic aims and objectives as set by the Trust Board, ensuring adequate engagement with stakeholders and using market analysis.
* Support the growth of market share and commercial income by identifying new commercial business opportunities, including new international opportunities, using data and market research, benchmarking, networks and strategic alliances.
* Develop and implement a governance framework for the commercial activities of the Trust, including all partnership arrangements, consistent with the Trust's Standing Financial Instructions and Public Sector Procurement Regulations.
* Identify, analyse and report commercial risks, including but not limited to financial and reputational risks. Work with stakeholders to resolve identified problems and mitigate risks as part of the Trust's Risk Assurance Framework.
* Support commercial and business development opportunities and create a sustainable pipeline of commercial developments, both local and overseas.
* Build capacity and capability with regard to commercial skills within the Trust and contribute expert commercial advice, information and guidance to support future commercial developments.
* Work with Trust Directors to develop business plans consistent with the commercial strategy and provide leadership in the development of business cases for commercial developments.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Degree level or equivalent education, ideally with relevant post-graduate management qualifications
Experience
* Significant experience managing commercial and/or business development activities at a senior level, preferably the public sector
Skills
* Evidence of successfully building, maintaining and utilising partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Exceptional communicator, able to create impact and demonstrate proactive customer relationship awareness.
* Sound understanding of NHS legal, governance and regulatory frameworks
