Mental Health Occupational Therapy Assistant - Adult Acute Inpatients

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised part‑time Occupational Therapy Assistant to join Brocton House, our Adult Acute Mental Health ward, based at St Georges Hospital in Stafford.

You will join a developing and innovative service that aims to provide the right care and treatment at the right time to individuals within the Staffordshire area. You will become part of an established multi‑disciplinary team with a strong emphasis on evidence‑based occupational therapy interventions.

We are looking for someone with experience, relevant knowledge and a passion for working with mental health service users to contribute interventions that promote recovery or support living well. Applicants need to demonstrate drive and motivation in providing recovery‑based OT interventions.


Main duties of the job

Working in an inpatient Adult Acute mental health setting with the flexibility of working across other wards and off‑ward in community, dependent on skill and service need.

Delivering a high‑quality clinical service to patients and their families both on the ward and in the community.

Delivering occupational therapy interventions in accordance with an agreed care plan to an identified group of people experiencing mental health and dementia‑related difficulties under the guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist.

Supporting and co‑leading the provision of ward and community activities and interventions with service users/patients.

Job responsibilities

You need evidence of a Higher apprenticeship level 5 / Foundation Degree in related subject/ assistant practitioner qualification or equivalent or a health related qualification (NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care or higher) or be willing to undertake assistant practitioner training.

You will have the opportunity to work as a member of the multi‑disciplinary team, which includes other allied health professionals, nursing, medics, social workers and psychology. Your role will involve working closely with other agencies, carers, service users, families, the local community and community mental health teams, ensuring continuity of service is provided at a high level.

Qualifications

* Higher apprenticeship level 5 / Foundation Degree in related subject/ assistant practitioner qualification or equivalent OR health related qualification (NVQ / QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care or higher)
* Evidence of/willing to undertake training relevant to the post.


Experience

* Experience of working with people with mental health conditions/vulnerable adults in a healthcare setting.
* Knowledge of both complex mental health and physical health conditions.
* Relevant placements/experience to the role including supporting or contributing to assessment and management of individuals with Occupational Therapy needs.
* Experience of delivering exercise programmes either individually or in a group setting.
* Experience working within AHP profession.
