Job Description Senior Engineering Technician – R&D Instrumentation We’re working with a cutting-edge team developing next-generation DNA sequencing technology, and they’re looking for a hands-on Senior Engineering Technician to support their R&D function. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building, troubleshooting, and improving complex systems, not just designing them. You’ll be working on advanced instrumentation in a regulated ISO 13485 environment, directly supporting scientific innovation. The Role You’ll play a key part in building, deploying, and maintaining complex R&D instrumentation, working closely with engineers and scientists to ensure systems perform reliably and consistently. This is a practical, workshop lab-based role where attention to detail and problem-solving are critical. What You’ll Be Doing Building, assembling, and deploying R&D instrumentation (fluidics, pumps, sensors, actuators) Troubleshooting faults and improving system performance and reliability Supporting prototype development, including mechanical builds and test setups Carrying out preventive maintenance and fault tracking on devices, rigs, and fixtures Working closely with engineers and scientists to support ongoing R&D projects Producing and maintaining technical documentation (SOPs, work instructions, reports) Managing parts, components, and stock to support build activities Interfacing with software-controlled systems during testing and operation Performing repetitive build and test tasks with high accuracy and consistency What They’re Looking For Essential Experience as an Engineering Technician in medical devices, diagnostics, or another regulated environment Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining complex electromechanical systems Proven ability in fault finding, troubleshooting, and device optimisation Experience with soldering, wiring, and sensor integration Familiarity with prototyping techniques (e.g. 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC) Basic CAD knowledge (e.g. SolidWorks) Experience working within a regulated/QMS environment (ISO 13485 or similar) Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently Desirable Experience with fluidics, pneumatics, or laboratory instrumentation Understanding of electrical circuit design Why This Role Work on genuinely innovative DNA sequencing technology Be part of a highly collaborative R&D environment Play a hands-on role in developing real-world healthcare solutions Interested?
