Job Overview
The Assistant Divisional Manager supports the Divisional Manager, Head of Nursing and Divisional Director in developing and modernising Moorfields services within the Directorate of St George’s. This role is one of three members of the directorate leadership triumvirate, working closely with the Matron and Clinical Director.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage division operations and ensure delivery of services within available resources.
* Lead service redesign and continuous improvement initiatives, developing new ways of working.
* Identify and address service pressures, planning and reviewing action plans and policies.
* Develop business cases and bids for new service developments.
* Monitor activity and income to achieve NHS plan targets, working with commissioning colleagues to secure appropriate funding.
* Analyse service performance using statistics, audits and confidential patient data.
* Lead ad‑hoc projects and significant service transformation and change projects to improve efficiency and quality.
* Provide operational support to meet the Trust’s strategic objectives, including waiting list (RTT), financial, HR, health and safety, risk, clinical and quality governance.
People and Team Management
* Line‑manage senior administrators, delivering HR functions such as recruitment, performance management and compliance with mandatory training.
* Monitor workforce indicators, promote a high‑performance culture and support development of staff leadership skills.
* Conduct performance appraisals and training plans for line‑managed staff.
Finance and Service Delivery
* Accountable to the Divisional Manager for delegated budgets and service delivery within agreed financial limits.
* Authorise resources, validate invoices and assist in financial planning for the division.
* Develop systems to maximise income, control expenditure and deliver cost improvements.
* Identify additional income sources and efficiency savings.
* Assist in capital programme planning, risk assessment and prioritisation of equipment replacement.
Risk Management, Patient Involvement & Governance
* Support governance frameworks with Head of Nursing, Quality Partner and clinical leads.
* Coordinate methods for capturing patient and carer views and encourage participation in user strategy.
* Investigate and respond to patient/carer complaints, ensuring timely and sensitive resolution.
* Monitor, mitigate and report incidents and risks, improving patient and staff safety.
* Conduct serious incident investigations, research and benchmarking for continuous improvement.
* Represent the division in Trust‑wide operational working groups and risk assessments.
General Duties
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and trust policies.
* Maintain information governance standards and adhere to the NHS Information Governance Toolkit.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* Graduate‑level qualification or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of continued professional development within healthcare management.
* Postgraduate management qualification (e.g., MA, Pg Dip, NHS Management Training Scheme) – desirable.
Experience
* Proven operational management experience in the NHS or similar environment.
* Experience working with NHS service delivery targets.
* Experience line‑managing individuals or a team.
* Demonstrable record of achieving change in a healthcare setting – desirable.
