Role: Commercial Buying Specialist - 15 month FTC
Location: Screwfix Head Office, Yeovil (Hybrid working)

While you won’t directly negotiate or manage supplier relationships, your expertise will be critical in identifying commercial opportunities and advising on the most effective approaches, tactics, and strategies to deliver the best outcomes. Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
Support & Advise
You’ll provide data-led insights that help Trading teams identify and agree commercial opportunities. Drawing on your understanding of negotiation principles, you’ll advise on strategies and tactics that support strong outcomes.
Drive Commercial Success
Partner with Trading teams to support exceptional vendor agreements, influencing a branded cost of sales spend of over £750m, including:
11. Enhancing vendor trading terms to reflect the value of continued growth
12. Influencing cost price reductions to support margin improvement and competitive pricing
13. Supporting sourcing decisions that deliver sustainable cost advantages
Provide Strategic Insight
Use market data across commodities, currencies, and broader trends to support negotiations, validate costs, and strengthen commercial decision-making.
Influence & Improve
Bring a curious mindset to challenge existing buying processes, uncovering opportunities for efficiency, effectiveness, and cost savings.
Lead Best Practice
Share knowledge across teams by leading workshops, developing templates, and embedding consistent approaches to buying and vendor management.
Collaborate for Impact
Build strong relationships across the business, working closely with Category Managers, Finance Partners, and Commercial Operations to deliver shared goals.
Make a Difference

Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
14. Commercial Experience: Experience in buying or a commercial role, with a solid understanding of negotiation planning and strategy.
15. Analytical Mindset: Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to turn complex data into clear, actionable insight.
16. Collaborative Approach: Confident influencing and supporting stakeholders at all levels, including challenging constructively when needed.
17. Technical Skills: Advanced Excel skills and strong PowerPoint capability, with the ability to produce clear, impactful analysis and presentations.
18. Organised & Driven: Excellent planning and prioritisation skills, with a commitment to high standards and continuous improvement.
