Combustion & Control Engineer - DAYS ONLY
Job Summary
Responsible for control & combustion maintenance activities within a medium to heavy manufacturing environment. Providing a proactive service to reduce downtime, improve plant performance, and enhance reliability using preventative and predictive maintenance methods. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, adaptable, and committed to health and safety practices, with a focus on work quality and plant standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform reactive and proactive maintenance across the Melt Shop and Engineered Products site, including work on Vacuum Induction Melting Furnaces (VIM), Vacuum Arc Remelting Furnaces (VAR), Electroslag Remelting Furnaces (ESR), heat treatment, and annealing furnaces.
2. Support compliance activities such as Thermal Uniformity Surveys (TUS), Calibrations, and System Accuracy Tests (SAT).
3. Understand electrical and control systems including PLCs, Burner Management Systems, and systems interfacing with the site IT network; diagnose plant faults accurately.
4. Develop, implement, and manage PPM schedules to maximize machine availability.
5. Record daily activities and create work orders within the site CMMS; assist with fault diagnosis using the system.
6. Participate in daily and weekly maintenance meetings and plant reviews.
7. Identify, specify, and order critical parts using the company system.
8. Contribute to the management and improvement of critical spares requirements.
9. Work with OEM service engineers as needed.
10. Promote lean working practices to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
11. Participate in training and upskilling to maintain and improve technical knowledge.
12. Perform safety and quality risk assessments.
13. Adhere to safety, environmental, and legislative requirements.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
Desirable
* IOSH qualification is advantageous.
* Experience with furnace mechanics and control systems.
* Knowledge of control logic, PLCs, and PID theory.
* Understanding of instrumentation and working principles.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and process trend recordings.
Additional Compensation
The role includes a bonus of up to 10%, approximately £4,500 to £5,000 on top of the salary.
