Medical Day Units Ward Clerk Role
The Medical Day Units (MDU) services have expanded over the past 12 months, including additional staff, extended opening hours, and new pathways.
We are a nurse-led unit providing treatment for day patients from departments such as Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Haematology, Urology, Rheumatology, and Dermatology.
The Ward Clerk acts as a receptionist and the first point of contact for patients visiting the department. The role is highly varied and includes the following key tasks:
1. Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and staff to ensure the smooth operation of the ward and enhance patient care. Serve as the first point of contact both face-to-face and via telephone.
2. Provide excellent customer care, demonstrating tact and empathy, especially when dealing with distressed or anxious patients and relatives. Handle all communications appropriately, including sensitive issues.
3. Create, input, and update MDU admissions and arrivals, ensuring data accuracy and notes are scanned onto electronic systems.
4. Offer a proactive and professional welcome at the ward reception, representing the Trust positively.
5. Deliver efficient administrative and clerical support to the Ward Team.
6. Maintain the security and confidentiality of all information at all times.
7. Uphold the professional image of the Trust consistently.
