Job Overview

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Psychiatrist in the Solihull Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (SOLAR), to provide care for patients who have a co‑morbidity of Learning Disability / Autism (LDA). This post will be based at our Freshfields Clinic in Solihull.

SOLAR is the emotional wellbeing and mental health service for those aged 0‑19 years, in Solihull. Provided by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust in collaboration with Barnardo's and Autism West Midlands, the service aims to meet the emotional wellbeing and mental health needs of children and young people, and support them to move on from the service when they are ready; provide simple and timely access for families and practitioners; provide care which is child and family focused; strengthen capacity within services such as schools and primary care settings and support parents and carers to understand their children’s needs and behaviours, and develop strong attachments.


Responsibilities & Qualifications

The primary role will involve undertaking clinical assessment and treatment of referred out‑patients and continuity of care of patients in the service up to their 19th birthday. The postholder will also provide senior medical input to SOLAR. Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council and hold MRCPsych or equivalent. You must have obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the award of a CCT or equivalent, in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. You will provide medical leadership, support and advice on LDA matters to the service, and with senior multidisciplinary colleagues, lead and develop a clinical service working with high levels of complex emotional and mental health problems. The role will involve liaison with other pathways within the Trust and fostering a close relationship with Primary Care to provide a high quality of holistic care for our service users.

Please note, if applicable for your role you will be required to cover the cost of your DBS certificate. This will be deducted from your salary over 3 months. You will also be required to sign up to the DBS Update Service before commencement with the Trust. The Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.

All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e‑learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9‑14 hours depending on post) by the end of your second week with us.
