The Engineering & Facilities Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the site, maintaining equipment reliability, and continuously improving processes within a food manufacturing environment. The role ensures compliance with BRCGS standards, food safety requirements, Health & Safety regulations, and other legal obligations critical to maintaining high-quality product output and site efficiency.
You will focus on maintaining both operational equipment and site infrastructure through planned maintenance, swift response to breakdowns, and the implementation of long-term reliability strategies. The position requires a hands-on, proactive approach to meet the challenges of operating in a regulated food production environment.
Key Accountabilities
* Execute planned and reactive maintenance to ensure uninterrupted production while adhering to food safety and H&S requirements.
* Coordinate and supervise specialist contractors for infrastructure equipment such as HVAC systems, lifts, and MHE.
* Conduct and document maintenance activities in compliance with H&S Regulations, BRCGS standards, and legal requirements.
* Provide technical support to machine operators, promoting operator-led maintenance and safety awareness.
* Support development of preventative maintenance schedules using techniques like TPM, RCA, and FMEA to improve reliability.
* Analyze failure data to identify root causes and develop solutions.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
* Manage spare parts inventory for critical components, minimizing excess stock.
* Monitor KPIs related to maintenance efficiency, downtime, and equipment performance.
* Participate in safety initiatives and promote a safety-first culture.
* Maintain site infrastructure to meet operational needs.
* Collaborate with H&S, Technical, IT, Operations, and Engineering teams to align maintenance with production and compliance standards.
* Ensure documentation and processes support internal and external audits, including BRCGS certification.
Additional tasks may be required as per business needs. Flexibility and adaptability are essential.
Skills/Experience
* Time-served Mechanical or Electrical Maintenance engineer with strong technical skills.
* Minimum NVQ Level 3 or HNC in a relevant discipline.
* At least 3 years of experience in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
* Proficiency with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
* Knowledge of modern maintenance techniques and methodologies.
* Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance activities effectively.
* Understanding of Health & Safety standards in manufacturing.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills, teamwork-oriented.
* Experience troubleshooting and solving problems under pressure.
