Harefield Hospital’s Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU) consists of two cardiology wards, Oak and Acorn, with a combination of approximately 40 overnight beds and day case trolleys. ACCU predominately cares for people who require cardiac investigations and interventions such as Angioplasty (Primary and Elective), Electrophysiology studies, TAVI -Transcatheter aortic valve implantation, Ablations and Pacemakers/Devices. We also care for patients who have heart failure and those requiring end of life care. Our primary angioplasty service is one of the busiest in the country and we pride ourselves on the aftercare provided to patients following their MI.
The Acute Cardiac Care Unit can provide invasive cardiac monitoring, caring for Level 1 & Level 2 patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1.Supporting and deputising for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the clinical management of the clinical area. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in conjunction with the ward sister/charge nurse in emergency or unforeseen situations.
2.To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of a particular group of staff delegated by the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
3.Lead and direct the nursing care and competence of other junior nurses, students and HCA’s to maintain a high standard of excellent nursing care.
4.To act as a role model and a leader to all staff dealing with complex situations involved in patient’s level 0-2 in the critical care score, initiating treatment, and taking emergency action where appropriate.
5.To demonstrate a wide of range of nursing expertise in areas of specialist nursing care.
6.Act as a clinical team leader, clinical role model, clinical facilitator and educator for all members of staff providing daily unit management, clinical competence, continuity of care and a high standard of excellent nursing care.
7.To provide ‘on the floor’ excellent day to day nursing practice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
8.The post holder will be accountable for their nursing practice, adhere to the policies and protocols of the trust and the NMC. You will have a responsibility for your own personal and professional development.
9.To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.
10.The post holder will have a pivotal role within the multidisciplinary team. Primarily, responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of effective nursing care, liaising closely with the nursing teams, medical teams, clinical nurse specialists. You will be a clinical resource and a positive role model to members of staff within the clinical area and across the Trust.
