About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team in a fast-paced food production facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to maintain high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on production machinery, utilities, and plant equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system faults to minimize downtime.
Work closely with production teams to ensure smooth operation of equipment.
Support compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Participate in continuous improvement projects, including equipment upgrades, efficiency improvements, and automation initiatives.
Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
Ensure spare parts inventory is managed effectively.
Key Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer / Multi-Skilled Engineer in a food manufacturing or FMCG environment (essential).
Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance (PLC fault finding desirable).
Experience working with high-speed packaging machinery, conveyors, mixers, ovens, pumps, or similar food processing equipment.
Understanding of food safety (HACCP, GMP) and regulatory standards.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, proactive approach.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Flexible to work shifts, including nights and weekends if required.
Qualifications
Time-served apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, ONC, HNC, or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering).
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (advantageous).
Food industry training (e.g., HACCP, food safety, health & safety) beneficial.
