We are looking for a caretaker/site manager to work within our fantastic school. We can offer some flexibility regarding hours which are likely to be mornings and afternoons, between 20 and 30 hours a week (candidate dependent).Pay will increase as the school grows.OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE We seek to appoint a Caretaker to be responsible for the provision of looking after and maintaining our school grounds. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a growing school and a fabulous team of supportive colleagues.JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Experience of working in a school or similar environment. • Experience of being in a similar role. • Good communication skills. • Time management THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: • Demonstrate previous experience and ‘DIY skills’ to identify, monitor and carry out minor repairs, maintenance and redecoration. • Demonstrate knowledge of moving and handling procedures and be physically able to carry out the physical tasks of the role (e.g. lifting, shifting, clearing snow etc). • Demonstrate knowledge of Health & Safety and hygiene procedures and precautions. • Awareness of COSHH regulations, applying knowledge gained as appropriate. • Demonstrate good communication skills that allow effective communication with all levels of school staff, governors, pupils, contractors and outside users of the school (hirers).MAIN ROLE1. To be responsible for the security of the premises and its contents, including the operation of fire and burglar alarms and undertaking key holder responsibilities, involving locking/unlocking entrances, checking and securing windows and internal doors, activating and switching off alarm systems, etc. To be available to answer emergencies outside of regular working hours and pre-planned lettings. 2. Responsible for opening school and checking building and grounds at start and end of the day 3. Undertake daily checks of fire exits, including fire exit routes. 4. To ensure that heating and lighting systems and other equipment are working properly. Through prescribed daily checks and report any issues and faults. 5. To take water temperatures as required and record results in the appropriate manner. 6. To undertake weekly testing of Fire Alarms, Sprinkler System and flushing of taps in line with legionella risk prevention procedures. To complete associated paperwork in the correct manner. 7. To be fully aware of and to comply with all academy instructions and procedures relating to Health and Safety at Work and to recognise the responsibilities required under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. 8. To dispose of occasional rubbish effectively, clearing it from the school building and organising bins for collection. 9. Maintain outdoor areas, paths, approaches and drain grids in a clean condition and litter free including the emptying of outside bins and litter picking car park and entrance to school as part of weekly checks. 10. Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions.11. Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety and Welfare. 12. To ensure the delivery of prescribed statutory checks as per current health and safety legislation (refer to check list timetable for frequency and type). WHY CHOOSE US?
