The role: The role of Co-production Volunteer Manager will embed a thriving culture of volunteering at The Bowes Museum, working closely with staff, partners and community members to establish a positive volunteering environment and exciting programme of volunteer opportunities. Through this work, co-production approaches will become the norm for our staff teams and we will build strong, reciprocal relationships with people in our communities.
The person: We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised person, with experience of working with volunteers and coordinating programmes.You will be passionate about the social and personal wellbeing that can result from volunteering, and you’ll thrive on building strong relationships. You will know the complexities of working with a wide range of people and your proactive approach will help build a sense of community and belonging.
Role Purpose:
·To develop a unified and positive volunteering culture in The Bowes Museum.
·To ensure that co-production is embedded in all projects undertaken by The Bowes Museum
·To develop and manage relationships with Co-production Volunteers
·To proactively facilitate the co-production of programmes with Co-Volunteers.
Specific Responsibilities and duties:
* Support the museum in creating a positive, flexible and inclusive environment for existing and future volunteers, local communities and partner organisations.
* Lead the co-production volunteer strategy and framework to support the successful co-production of Bowes Museum projects and programmes.
* Build relationships with existing and new audiences and communities to a foster positive reputation, increase our relevance in the local area, and increase volunteering at The Bowes Museum.
* Develop the confidence and capability of our volunteer managers and those staff leading teams of volunteers.
* Ensure that day-to-day and overall arrangements for volunteers’ induction and training are in place and implemented.
* Manage efficient and effective volunteer recruitment and selection, including data management and CRM systems, complying with The Bowes Museum’s policies and procedures.
* Take responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of the Co-Production Volunteer Programme, including work experience opportunities and internships, ensuring people have a voice and the opportunity to share skills.
* Work with colleagues and project leads to design, promote and implement Volunteering Opportunities, manage positive relationships and working with Project Leads to resolve issues.
* Regularly evaluate and report the outcomes and impact of co-production volunteering at The Bowes Museum keeping necessary records and processes in place to inform these reports.
* Work in partnership on and off site with groups and organisations as required.
* Contribute to the work of and collaborate with colleagues on the Extended Management Team.

* Interact and cooperate proactively with all employees, trustees and volunteers, ensuring good teamwork, inclusive practices, and interdisciplinary activities across work strands, projects and programmes.
* Manage individual performance of assigned staff, volunteers, and researchers as appropriate and in line with the organisation’s performance management processes.
* Make best use of technology across our activities.
* Support effective communications and promotion of The Bowes Museum and our activities.
* Work flexibly at times and on occasions that connect with the needs of our audiences and communities.
* Ensure we are adhering to and compliant with our policies, processes and statutory obligations.
* Take ownership of your professional and personal development, working with your line manager to identify and address gaps in skills and competencies.
* Ensure that the Health and Safety policy, organisation arrangements and procedures under your control are understood, implemented, and monitored.
* Help to ensure any barriers to equality of opportunity are removed and to eliminate unfair and unlawful discrimination, giving everyone an equal chance to learn, work and live free from discrimination and prejudice.
* The role may include taking on Duty Manager shifts on a rota basis and may involve staff or volunteer line management in time.
* Demonstrate, advocate and lead the museum’s values and behaviours in all we do.
