Nursery Manager (12 months Maternity Cover)
Job Summary
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer this opportunity to lead two day nurseries supporting local NHS staff. The role is based at the UHS family‐run preschool at University Hospital Southampton, with a flexible working pattern from 0700 to 1830 Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
* Provide calm, kind and caring leadership to a team of teachers and support staff.
* Lead a large early‑years team and drive improvements in performance, curriculum and Ofsted outcomes.
* Ensure high standards of health, safety, safeguarding and hygiene in the setting.
* Manage the nursery budget, purchase, and resource planning.
* Maintain accurate records for children, staff and finances.
* Collaborate with NHS colleagues to support children aged 3 months to 5 years.
* Offer flexibility to work shifts between 0700‑1830 throughout the year.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree or Foundation Degree in Early Years, or relevant level 3 or above qualification (validation certificate required).
* Early Years Practitioner (EYP) status or equivalent.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a childcare setting and 1 year’s management experience.
* Knowledge of Ofsted regulations, current under‑5 curriculum and curriculum planning.
* Excellent communication skills, both with staff and parents.
* Experience of managing a team and a budget.
* Current GCSE in Maths and English (C or above).
* Desirable: evidence of continuing professional development, paediatric first aid certificate, food hygiene certificate.
Salary & Contract
* Band 6, Salary £38,682 – £46,580 per annum (pro‑rata).
* Fixed‑term contract, 12 months.
* Full‑time, part‑time or shift patterns available.
