Job Description:
Main duties and responsibilities
* Support the Principal Investigator in achieving project milestones and attend meetings as required.
* Physically test the accuracy of sensors, mechanical strength of optical fibres, and structural integrity when embedded into components.
* Relate multi-dimensional strains and temperature readings to the quality of the manufactured component, informing process parameters and through-life monitoring.
* Contribute to the design and organization of the R&D project and assist with administration.
* Assist with collating and writing publications, project reports, and working papers.
Skills and experience required
The successful candidate will have experience in composite manufacturing, knowledge of composites, and a fundamental understanding of microstructural features. Ability to model composite processing or failure using software such as Abaqus or Ansys is essential. Good IT skills, including MS Office, are required. Research experience in composite damage identification and prediction, with a record of scholarly publications, is preferred. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, along with flexibility, teamwork, initiative, and the ability to learn new skills, are essential.
Qualifications required
A degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification) or higher in a relevant discipline, and a PhD (or equivalent level 8 qualification) or equivalent experience in composites and materials science, are required.
