We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced renal nurse to join the renal specialist nurse team, 37.5 hours per week. This is a temporary position working within the pre transplant specialist nurse team. The post is to cover the external secondment of a current team member, between February and December 2026.
Pre transplant specialist nurses are responsible for the management of a caseload of patients preparing for Kidney or Kidney/Pancreas transplantation. It also involves working with people who are preparing to be a living kidney donor. This role involves provision of specialist information and counselling to patients regarding the transplant work-up process, the transplant process and aftercare. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a small team is essential.

Please note interviews for this role will be Face to Face only with no remote option available.
Main duties of the job
Duties include but are not limited to:
Specialist nursing care of patients in the nurse led pre- transplant clinic, including transplant recipients and potential living donors.
·Providing specialist information and counselling to patients regarding pre transplant work up, the transplant process and aftercare.
·Request and co-ordinate the required blood tests and investigations for pre-transplant work-up, including x rays and scans following the agreed pre-transplant work-up pathways and guidelines from local Transplant centres (St James’s University Hospital, Leeds and Manchester Royal Infirmary).
·Co-ordination of required assessments to ensure timely listing on the National Deceased Donor Transplant Waiting List or Live Kidney Donor transplantation.
·Maintaining accurate database of relevant information/updating shared renal systems (BHLY).
·Close liaison with the renal consultants, renal MDT, dialysis units and the transplant team / MDT in the regional transplanting centres.
·Responding to queries and concerns from patients as they arise, escalating where appropriate.
·Providing psychological support to the patient and their families prior to transplantation, referring to specialist psychological support where needed.
