Role Overview
We have an opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to support the teaching team in R for Reproducible Psychological Research, Level 6, up to 42 hours of teaching (either 24 hours or 18 hours) and 14 sessions on Tuesday afternoons 2-5pm and/or evenings 6-9pm Autumn term.
Responsibilities
* Deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, enabling them to complete their studies successfully.
* Carry out course administrative duties, including marking and assessment.
* Prepare, teach, administer, and assess the R for Reproducible Psychological Research module, a Level 6 option module in a BPS accredited BSc Psychology programme.
* Assist the module lead, Professor Marie Smith, in its delivery.
* Facilitate learning of the R coding language, data wrangling, visualisation, the ggplot package, conditional statements, logical operations, loops, dyplr package, basic statistical analysis, and reproducible science tools such as rmarkdown for report writing.
Minimum Requirements
* A degree in Psychology or a related area.
* Current or completed postgraduate degree in Psychology or a related area.
* Demonstrable knowledge and experience in R coding and its application within psychological sciences.
* Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
* Good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners, and ability to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.
Desirable
* A teaching qualification.
Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate of £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro‑rated London Allowance and holiday pay, for contact hours worked. The rate includes a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, covering preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties.
