At Mace, our purpose is to redefine the boundaries of ambition. We believe in creating places that are responsible, bringing transformative impact to our people, communities and societies across the globe. To learn more about our purpose, culture, and priorities, visit our strategy site.

About the Project

The role is for a BI developer specialising in the Microsoft technology stack. It is a client‑facing role supporting fee‑earning projects and programmes. The position is part of Mace’s growing digital centre of excellence team, which enables and enhances project delivery through the development of digital tools, processes and reports that support data‑driven decision making.

As part of your role, you will interface with the Mace project team and occasionally stakeholders from other organisations, and you will be part of the digital centre of excellence community, sharing knowledge and experience with other BI and data professionals. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced practitioners and further develop your technical skill set.

Mace’s values that shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us are:

* Safety first – Going home safe and well
* Client focus – Deliver on our promise
* Integrity – Always do the right thing
* Create opportunity – For our people to excel

Key technical expectations:

You will be expected to work with Microsoft’s ‘low‑code’ Power Platform suite, principally with Power BI, as well as SharePoint, Teams and the M365 Office suite. There is an opportunity to grow your role into other Power Platform applications such as Power Apps, Power Automate and Fabric should you choose to.

Any knowledge or experience of supporting BI and data analytics software and languages such as Python, JSON, R, JavaScript, SQL, etc. would be a benefit but is not a requirement.

Responsibilities

* Work under the direction of a senior colleague, and independently on short‑term, low‑complexity projects.
* Contribute to the delivery of the overall solution by collaborating with others and/or being responsible for a specific area of delivery.
* Develop digital tools, processes and outputs, including interactive Power BI reports, that support the wider project team and enable better delivery of projects for our clients.
* Adhere to a structured development lifecycle that includes requirements definition, design, development and testing, user acceptance testing, deployment, handover and post‑implementation support.
* Contribute to requirements definition, documentation and training materials as part of a wider team – effective communication skills are a must.
* Attend all training and other sessions organised by the centre of excellence, and keep your knowledge of Power BI up to date through self‑directed learning.

Required Skills and Experience

* Understanding of effective visual layering, selecting the right visuals for the type of information displayed.
* Use of organisational features such as layout, headers and tooltips to convey context.
* Fundamentals of data transformation (cleaning and structuring data for reporting), using Power Query or methods outside of the BI tech stack, such as Python.
* Basic DAX measures to support report use cases.
* Ability to articulate when to use calculated measures vs query calculations or calculating at source.
* Understanding of star schema design and its benefits.
* Linking two related tables in a data model using an ID or key field.
* Knowledge of good data structure and development processes.
* Awareness of data security and role‑based permissions.
* Understanding of techniques for analysis and visualisation of information.
* Experience in a consultancy environment managing stakeholders including clients, project managers and data owners.

Desired Attributes

* Collaborative spirit as part of a team.
* Willingness to share knowledge and support the development of others.
* Confidence to ask questions, make suggestions and challenge the status quo.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills (in English) and presentational skills.
* Commitment to working inclusively.
* Aptitude for problem‑solving.
* Good interpersonal skills.

Additional Information

Mace is an inclusive employer and welcomes interest from a diverse range of candidates. Even if you feel you do not fulfil all of the criteria, please apply as you may still be the best candidate for this role or another role within our organisation.

We are also open to discussing part‑time, flexible, and hybrid working options if suitable within the role.
