The post-holder is a HealthcareAssistant (HCA)
TheHCA works within the organisation and supports the practice nursing andadministrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services.This role involves working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team,delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patientpopulation.
Havingcompleted the Care Certificate or equivalent qualification, the HCA willdeliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventativecare, health promotion, long-term condition management and patient educationwhile also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.
The HCA will work under the supervision of a registered clinician whiledeveloping competencies in community-based care. The role is at SupportWorker Level and as described in NHS E Primary Care and General Practice Nursing Career andCore Capabilities Framework
Thepost-holder will be an integral part of the general practice team.
Theposition offers some flexibility with working hours, however Wednesdayevenings until 8pm is non-negotiable and essential for this position.
Main duties of the job
* Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments ofpatient need
* Deliver and assist clinical staff in the provisionof treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term conditionmanagement and patient education
* Carry out baselineobservations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulserate, recording findings accurately.
* Deliver basic clinical care interventions under supervision,supporting continuity of care and patient safety initiatives
* Act as a chaperone as required
* Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
* Provide support during minor operations as required
* Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps binsreplaced in accordance with the organisations IPC Policy
* Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for eachsession
* Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extantguidance
* Work within national and local protocols where these exist
* Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding currentlegislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on SafeguardingAdults and Safeguarding Children
* Recognise the boundaries of their practice and know when and to whompatients should be referred
* Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes
* Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance
* Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the HealthcareAssistant in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, arequirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factorssuch as workload and staffing levels:
a. Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments ofpatient need
b.Deliver and assist clinical staff in the provisionof treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term conditionmanagement and patient education
I.Undertake new patienthealth checks
II.Carry out baselineobservations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulserate, recording findings accurately
III.Facilitate routineand 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
IV.Undertake wound care,dressings and other clinical tasks as required
V.Carry out BMI checksas directed
VI.Undertake venepuncture
VII.When trained,administer flu vaccinations
VIII.Carry out ECGs asrequested

t. Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months.Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewedon a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed

Person Specification
Clinical knowledge and skills
* Ability to undertake vaccinations
* Understanding of the principles of ECGs
* Able to perform venepuncture
* Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
* Ability to undertake new patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse and BMI etc.
* Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to colleagues
* Clinical IT system user skills and thew ability to record accurate clinical notes
* Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
* Chaperone procedure
* Understand the requirement for PSDs and associated policy
* Broad knowledge of clinical governance
Qualifications
* Has completed the Care Certificate or equivalent qualification and as detailed within CQCs GP mythbuster 57: Health Care Assistants in General Practice
* There may need to be proof of any courses or training qualifications commensurate with the post
Experience
* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* Has worked in a primary care environment
* Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
