Full-time Substantive Consultant in the Department of Immunology at Barts Health NHS Trust.
Responsibilities
* Weekly Adult Immunology Clinic support and day-case unit participation, including assessment and management of immunological patients
* Lead consultant for subspecialty clinic and associated portfolio of clinical trials (where applicable)
* Provide clinical liaison with other specialties for out-patient and in-patient care of immunological conditions
* Support home-care programmes and provide telephone advice
* Participate in laboratory rota for clinical authorisation, commenting and interpretation of laboratory results
* Provide ward consultation and advice to other specialties
* Contribute to external SLA support and develop other clinical links and joint clinics as required
* Collaborate with consultant colleagues to provide a reliable, expeditious service with scope for development
* Negotiate rota agreements with colleagues; mediate disputes if necessary
* Comply with good clinical governance, national medical recertification requirements, and DBS checking
Qualifications
* MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent
* MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification
* FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
* Full GMC registration (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
* UK-trained holders must have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award; non-UK trained holders must provide evidence of equivalence to UK CCT
* Continuous professional development and up-to-date knowledge of medical advances
Experience
* Essential: Commitment to clinical leadership and management processes; extensive training and experience in immunology; independent delivery of service; knowledge and execution of medical audit projects; experience in undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching or training; research interests with peer-reviewed publications; participation in service improvement projects; understanding of clinical risk management and governance; evidence-based practice
* Desirable: Academic degree in immunology (MSc/MD/PhD); attendance of management training or "training the trainers" course; experience of exam preparation; interest in research publications
Skills
* Essential: Proficient spoken and written English; broad range of IT skills; professional attitude, reliability, good attendance record, tidy personal appearance; effective communication with clinical colleagues, pathology and support staff
* Desirable: Advanced IT training; knowledge of clinical risk management and governance; immunology expertise; evidence-based practice knowledge
