Job Title: Defence Children Services (Client) Careers Advisor
Location: Upavon, UK
Job Type: Full-time contract, 6 weeks
Work Model: Hybrid (1 day/week onsite)
Summary:
• This role focuses primarily on supporting priority and vulnerable students—those at risk of becoming NEET, uncertain about next steps, or needing focused short notice guidance. You’ll work remotely with the Careers Leads and Heads of Sixth Form within each school and provide impartial, expert support to students exploring their post 16 and post 18 options.
• This position is critical to meeting statutory careers guidance requirements (Gatsby Benchmark 8). The absence of a Level 6 Careers Advisor has resulted in compliance and operational risks for Client, so your impact will be immediate and meaningful.

Careers Guidance & Support
• Support students at key transition points, including GCSE options, post 16, and post 18 decision making.
• Prioritise and tailor support for vulnerable or high need students as directed by school leadership.
Caseload & Record Management
• Manage a varied caseload of students with diverse needs, including SEND.
• Create and maintain accurate electronic records, action plans, and follow up notes.
Group Activities & Workshops
• Plan and deliver engaging small or large group career related sessions.
• Use labour market information to help students understand current employment trends and pathways.
Stakeholder Collaboration
• Work closely with Careers Leads and other school contacts to identify priority students.
• Liaise with external third party suppliers as required (occasionally taken on by the Training, Assessment & Careers Team Lead).
Essential Skills & Experience:
• Level 6 Qualified Careers Advisor (ideally essential).
o Level 4 may be considered only if Level 6 candidates are unavailable.
• Strong experience supporting post 16 students.
• Excellent knowledge of labour market information, employment trends, and education pathways (academic and vocational).
• Confident delivering both 1:1 and group guidance sessions.
• Skilled in managing caseloads and maintaining detailed student records.
