Overview
We have a temporary 6-month contract opportunity to join our small in-house design studio. You’ll support the design process across a variety of projects, including heritage buildings, where detail and thoughtful design matter. This role offers hands-on experience, the chance to make a real impact, and the opportunity to learn from a collaborative, problem-solving team.
Responsibilities
* Design development
* Assist in the preparation of architectural designs, including concept sketches, detailed drawings, and 3D models.
* Contribute to the development of design proposals in collaboration with senior architects and project teams.
* Produce presentations, visualizations, and graphics to communicate design ideas effectively.
* Prepare detailed technical drawings and specifications for planning and construction purposes.
* Coordinate with other consultants (structural engineers, MEP, landscape architects, etc.) to ensure technical integration.
* Assist in the production of schedules, material specifications, and construction detailing.
* Support project management tasks, including monitoring deadlines, budgets, and design progress.
* Participate in design team meetings and site visits to ensure alignment with project objectives.
* Liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities as required under supervision.
* Ensure designs comply with building regulations, planning policies, and relevant codes.
* Assist in the preparation of planning applications, building control submissions, and other statutory documentation.
* Conduct research on materials, construction methods, and sustainability strategies.
* Stay informed of current architectural trends, technologies, and legislation.
* Assist in maintaining project files, documentation, and drawing libraries.
* Provide support for internal quality control processes and standard operating procedures.
Qualifications
* RIBA Part 2 Qualification (or equivalent)
* Professional experience: 1–2 years of relevant work experience
* Technical skills: Competency in architectural drawing, CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit), 3D modelling (SketchUp, Rhino, etc.), and graphic presentation skills.
* Knowledge of regulations: Understanding of UK building regulations, planning requirements, and construction methods is highly desirable.
