Salary: £35000 – £38000 per annum dependent on experience
Job Purpose
The Grounds Maintenance Area Officer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating grounds maintenance activities within the Environmental Department. The role ensures that public open spaces, parks, and landscaped areas are maintained to a high standard, safely, efficiently, and in line with agreed service levels, environmental standards, and budget requirements. The role will be a predominantly field based role.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise and coordinate grounds maintenance operations across an allocated area
• Inspect all sites across the Environmental Department portfolio to ensure quality standards are met
• Assist Environmental Manager to allocate daily work tasks and schedules to operational staff and contractors
• Monitor performance, productivity, and workmanship of grounds maintenance teams
• Ensure safe working practices and compliance with health and safety legislation
• Identify maintenance issues and prioritise corrective actions
• Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders as required
• Respond to customer enquiries, complaints, and service requests in a timely manner
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and inspections using relevant systems
• Assist with budget monitoring and efficient use of resources
• Support seasonal programs such as mowing, pruning, planting, and weed control
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and service enhancements
• Assist Environmental manager in ensuring vehicle checks and equipment checks are carried out weekly and any repairs arranged as necessary
• Ensure asset register is kept up to date

Qualifications & Experience
• Certificate III or IV in Horticulture, Parks & Gardens, or a related field (desirable)
• Demonstrated experience in grounds maintenance or outdoor services (essential)
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience (essential)
• Current driver’s licence (essential)
• Chemical handling or spraying certification (desirable)
Working Conditions
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Physical duties including walking, standing, and site inspections
• Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required
