We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic pharmacist to join our team of pharmacists and medicines management technicians across the surgical services at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role is 9 month rotations across a variety of ward areas:
1. General Surgery
2. Trauma & Orthopaedics
3. Gastroenterology
4. ENT
This is a challenging and dynamic role that will allow successful applicants to strengthen their clinical knowledge and expertise, whilst also enhancing their consultation and assessment skills. Additionally you will also be able to develop your negotiation, influencing, leadership and management skills. In doing so, you will be required to;
5. Act as a positive role model for medicines management and medicines optimisation for pharmacy colleagues and other health care professionals,
6. Utilise transcribing or prescribing skills effectively to enhance patient care and patient safety,
7. Regularly participate in clinical audit and service improvements within the relevant clinical areas,
8. Be involved in the preparation of policies and procedures,
9. Be involved in risk reporting and management,
10. Provide relevant and up to date education and training to pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job
The pharmacy department at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be dedicated to your development, supporting you in your new role with various internal and external educational opportunities available to help you further develop both your clinical and professional skills. The department hosts over 200 members of staff and provides a stimulating, friendly, and professionally rewarding environment for staff to develop their clinical expertise and professionalism.
The successful candidate will work Monday Friday (flexible/condensed working considered), and will also be included in extended hours, weekend and on-call rotas, which are currently;
11. 1 day weekend working once every 5 weeks (reimbursed with a weekday off the following week),
12. 1 late night shift every 2 weeks (working hours ,
13. On call duties on a rolling rota basis, approximately 1 in 50.

Hospital services are provided from two main sites, the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. The James Cook University Hospital is designated as a Major Trauma Centre and as a Tertiary Care centre.

Essential criteria
14. Wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy within a hospital setting
15. Experience of providing directorate level pharmacist services budgetary reports, drug usage reviews
16. Developments of protocols and policies
17. Experience of developing strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals
18. Experience of leading and contributing to relevant research, audit and service improvement projects
19. Experience of involvement in multidisciplinary service development
Desirable criteria
20. Staff leadership and management experience
21. Experience in mentorship and training for other staff
22. Teaching experience in clinical and classroom setting
Qualifications
Essential criteria
23. Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
24. Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
25. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate clinical qualification
26. Pharmacist independent prescribing accreditation or actively working towards qualification
27. Evidence of CPD and ongoing education
Desirable criteria
28. Relevant postgraduate clinical qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
29. Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice
30. Involvement in development of evidence-based clinical guidelines, polices and protocols
31. Strong knowledge of medicines information resources
Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS)
