Freelance Project Manager – Infrastructure Works (Major UK DNO Framework)
Location: Wakefield / Yorkshire (Site-Based)
Engagement: Long-Term and Short-Term Contracts Available
Client: Major UK Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Manager to lead delivery of infrastructure works for a major UK DNO. Projects include substation upgrades, overhead line (OHL) works, and associated electrical network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead planning, coordination, and delivery of infrastructure projects on site.
* Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure successful delivery.
* Oversee subcontractor performance, compliance, and health & safety.
* Act as the client’s main point of contact on-site, providing updates and reports.
* Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
Cost Control & Reporting
* Monitor project budgets and track expenditure against forecasts.
* Support the commercial/QS team with valuations and change management.
* Identify risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation strategies.
* Produce progress reports for senior stakeholders and client representatives.
Stakeholder Management
* Liaise with engineers, surveyors, and planners to align operational and commercial objectives.
* Maintain strong communication with subcontractors, clients, and internal teams.
* Attend site meetings and project reviews, representing the delivery team professionally.
Candidate Profile
Essential: Proven project management experience on infrastructure projects (substations, overhead lines, network works), strong site management and budget control skills.
Desirable: NEC contract knowledge, DNO or regulated utility experience, professional project management accreditation (e.g., PMP, RICS, CIOB).
