Why this role is important for CPI’s work
We are looking for a Principal Scientist to join our Materials Scientist team, providing high-level technical expertise and leadership to deliver large-scale, complex projects.
The Principal will act as a credible technical expert for the organization, drawing upon a broad range of technical know-how to advise stakeholders and inform technical strategy and direction.

Key tasks in the Principal Scientist role will include (but are not limited to):
* Identifying new technical developments and trends, translating these into opportunities across and outside of CPI, and initiating the creation of technological innovations/applications.
* Utilizing expert knowledge to inform technology strategy at the technical area level, translating this into practical plans to achieve objectives.
* Building, influencing, and exploiting a network of relevant (inter)national external stakeholders, including research organizations and authorities, to represent CPI as a technical expert and advocate for projects and developments.
* Contributing to a culture of continuous capability development within teams through coaching and mentoring, including senior colleagues, to help them reach their potential.
* Staying updated with technological innovations and legislative or SHE-related changes, ensuring best practices are implemented.
* Collaborating with Business Development and technical colleagues, supporting proposal and project development, and engaging in business development opportunities.
* Supporting Bid Development teams by advising on technical elements to define and develop work programs.
The person we are seeking
* Educated to at least a HNC or Foundation Degree level (or equivalent) in a Scientific/Engineering discipline, with significant industrial experience at an expert level.
* Possessing significant expertise in inorganic chemistry and electrochemistry, with a proven record of solving complex technical problems.
* Capable of managing diverse or complex technical activities independently, implementing innovative solutions in critical situations.
* Exhibiting mastery of principles and practices in inorganic materials gained through a career in the field.
* Demonstrating experience in cross-industry and organizational knowledge sharing and networking.
* Having technical expertise in energetic materials, metals purification and recycling, process chemistry, or battery materials.
* Chartered status with a relevant professional institution.
* Active membership in a professional body, engaging with peers beyond CPI.
