We are seeking an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to start their employment here in the coming months. Based from our Head Office in Whitstable, the successful candidate will also be required to conduct site visits with one of our Contracts Managers from time-to-time, mainly within London and the surrounding areas. This will form part of the learning process and will help with understanding the nature of the works.
Alongside the office and site-based work and training, the successful candidate will be put through a 5 year Construction Quantity Surveyor course, which will achieve a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying Degree or equivalent Quantity Surveying Level 6 Diploma. This will involve 1 day per week at The University of Greenwich, starting from September 2026.
We are looking for someone confident and driven; also astute, commercially aware and a strong team player. Previous commercial or construction-related experience is desirable but not essential. The role will suit someone looking for a new challenge and to establish a long-term career in the construction industry.
Job Description/ Responsibilities:
The Apprentice Quantity Surveyor will work closely with our experienced Quantity Surveying team, learning and developing the skills necessary to support the successful management of projects. Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
· Managing the preparation of estimates, quotations and budgets for projects.
· Collaborating with Contracts Managers, Coordinators, Site Supervisors and other key members of the team, to gather information, records and ensure accurate and timely project cost tracking.
· Assess and manage variations, claims, and contract changes.
· Supporting the procurement process, including obtaining quotes, evaluating bids and assisting in negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors.
· Developing proficiency in using industry-standard software for quantity surveying tasks.
· Maintaining accurate documentation and records related to project costs and progress.
· Timely and accurate preparation and issuing of applications and invoices, adhering to strict deadlines.
· Assisting other members of the team with ad hoc day-to-day duties associated with the smooth running of the business.
· Dealing with large amounts of data, in a timely and accurate manner.
· Identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities in coordination with the operations team.
Requirements:
· Ideally, experience from a commercial or a Quantity Surveying background (desirable but not essential).
· Experience or a strong interest in the construction industry.
· A willingness to learn and a proactive attitude towards development.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Reliable and punctual.
· Strong numerical and analytical abilities.
· High attention to detail and accuracy.
· A team-oriented mindset and the ability to collaborate effectively.
· Computer literate.
· Strong Excel knowledge (intermediate to advanced level is highly desired).
· A' Level (or equivalent) and above qualifications (a degree is desirable but not essential).
· A full, valid UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
