Job Title: Maintenance Engineer

Salary: Up to £50,000 + overtime
Compass Point Recruitment is partnering with a well-established manufacturing business in Bury St Edmunds to recruit a Maintenance Engineer with a strong mechanical bias. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining and repairing production and utility equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
You'll join a proactive and experienced engineering team where mechanical expertise plays a key role in minimising downtime and driving continuous improvement.
Shift Pattern:
This role operates on a Panama shift pattern, rotating between days and nights. A full annual shift rota is provided in advance, allowing you to plan your time effectively.
• 12-hour shifts
• Excellent work-life balance - effectively around 50% of the year off when accounting for rest days and holidays
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out planned preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across all production and utility equipment
Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, motors, bearings, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems
Support electrical fault-finding where required as part of a multi-skilled maintenance team
Assist with the installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of new and existing machinery
Accurately record maintenance activities, breakdowns, and corrective actions
Actively participate in the BOPEX / continuous improvement programme
Ensure full compliance with site safety procedures, regulations, and company policies
Identify, report, and stop unsafe operations, using PPE as required
Skills & Experience Required:
Proven experience working as a Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
(e.g. product handling, conveying systems, elevating equipment)
Strong mechanical fault-finding skills with hands-on repair experience
Background in hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, and mechanical assemblies
Relevant mechanical qualifications
(NVQ, HNC/HND, or apprenticeship-trained in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance)
Experience working continental or 12-hour shift patterns is advantageous
Practical, safety-focused, and methodical approach to maintenance engineering
