Overview
Consultant Respiratory Physician position based across Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) and Bassetlaw District General Hospital (H), Worksop. The post aims to further promote the delivery of the well-established and progressive Respiratory and General Medicine services and to enhance patient outcomes. Applications are welcomed from those with a specialist skill in thoracoscopy or advanced bronchoscopy techniques including EBUS. This permanent post includes on-call Category A (low frequency) with a 3% on-call availability supplement.
Main duties
Key duties of the post include:
 * Strengthening the delivery of a high quality respiratory medicine service across the hospital and community.
 * Forging links between respiratory medicine and Accident and Emergency departments to develop effective patient pathways.
 * Liaising and developing working policies with relevant hospital departments, local General Practitioners, nurses and paramedics.
 * Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management with emphasis on high quality care and community management where appropriate.
 * Developing the use of nurse practitioners and paramedics in the hospital and community.
 * Developing a subspecialty interest.
 * Maintaining close links with respiratory medicine colleagues across sites.
 * Providing a 7 day service, with colleagues, as resources allow.
 * Teaching and training undergraduates as well as postgraduates.
 * Quality assurance of the service and individual practice.
Dedicated offices, IT access and secretarial support are provided for consultants.

Person specification
Qualifications
 * MRCP or equivalent
 * You must be on the specialist register for Respiratory or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees if currently in a UK training programme. All other doctors must be eligible for GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment.
 * Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
Experience and achievements
 * High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Respiratory
 * Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the specialty
 * Understanding of current issues and future direction of Respiratory and the wider NHS
 * Ability to work with and lead others across professions
 * Wide-based experience in Respiratory
 * Attendance at a recognised management course
Teaching and training
 * Experience and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff
 * Academic achievements or familiarity with research methods with publications
 * Training in clinical and educational supervision
 * Attended a teaching course
 * Formal qualification in teaching/education
Audit and research
 * Knowledge of audit principles and participation in audit projects with implementation of outcomes
 * Critical appraisal skills
 * Knowledge of research methodology
 * Ability to use IT systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
 * Evidence of innovation and continual learning and development
 * Self-awareness and understanding of impact of behaviour on others
 * Access to own transport
